CDS (Combined defence Service) examination is an exam conducted by the UPSE twice a year so as to recruits the candidates to Army, Navy as well to Air force. Those who have qualified the written test and the interview shall be send to different training centres based on their marks they have obtained in this examination.
The notification about CDS will comes in the leading newspapers during the time of August as well as March and CDS exam will occurs on February/ March or September/ October every year.
What are the 5 things you should know before you write CDS exam??
Under the eligibility criteria we will be discussing about your nationality, age limit as well as educational qualifications.
The aspirant of CDS exam should either Indian or a person from Nepal or Bhutan or any other Tibetan refugee who is permanently staying in India since 1st January 1962 or a migrant from some other countries whose pure intention is to serve India. Only those who are in the age range of 19-24 can apply to this exam for getting admissions at either Air force academy or Military academy or Naval Academy or Officer’s training academy.
For getting admissions to either Indian Military academy or Officer’s Training Academy one should get a graduation degree from a recognised University. For getting admission at Naval academy he/she should get a bachelors degree in Engineering. But for getting admission at Air force he/she should have studied Physics and mathematics at the 12th standard level and have obtained a bachelors degree in engineering.
The syllabus of CDS exam constitutes English , General knowledge and mathematics. In the section of English candidates have to answer questions from reading comprehension. This is to understand the capability of the CDS aspirants in English. In the section of General Knowledge the candidates can expect questions from current affairs, History, geography as well as applying the scientific knowledge in some particular situations and how they are solving it.
In case of mathematics candidates have to face question from arithmetic ability, statistics, trigonometry, geometry and other basic mathematics subjects.
All those people who want to qualify the CDS exam have to go through this 3 papers. The first paper English consists of 120 questions which totals upto 100 marks. The candidates have to attend these questions within a duration of 2 hours. In the second paper which is general knowledge the candidates can expect questions from current affairs, and they should study well before going to attend the exam about national and international events, history and geography of India as well as can expect questions from basic science. This section also carries 100 marks and a time duration of 2 hours.
The third section is mathematics.100 questions and 100 marks for this section. For doing this section candidate needs to practise a lot. Because they need to attend 100 questions in 120 minutes which is really a difficult task. If they are not good at thinking and answering quickly they will lose in this section and it will be difficult for them to qualify the CDS exam.
It mainly consists of four stages. The candidate has to pass the written test, then in the second round personal interview. The third round will be verification of certificates of the candidate and the fourth and final round is the medical examination of the selected candidates.
In the first stage candidate have to go through the syllabus prescribed for the test and study it thoroughly. Give time for every subject and improve your weak parts.
In the second stage of CDS, the main part is interview. The candidates can expect questions from current affairs. So they should be aware of what all things are happening all over the world. The second stage consists of group discussions and psychology tests other than the personal interview. Psychology test will be taken place in harsh environments to check the ability of the candidates to go through such situations.
In the third stage which is the certificate verification they have to show all their certificates which show their eligibility to write the exam as well as birth certificate, ID proof, Residence proof , passport size photograph and caste certificate if any. And in the fourth stage the candidates are examined whether they are physically fit or not.
